A home inspection isn’t just for a potential home buyer.  Divorcing couples have tended to rely on appraisals to determine the value of their home.  Appraisals focus on the value with comparable properties.

Appraisers don’t take into account the repairs a home may need that can lower its value.  Home inspectors would include this information in their report.  That information could then be provided to the appraiser or used in the divorce negotiation to get a more accurate estimate of the home’s worth and ensure that the party getting the house is getting a fair deal.

A home inspection should be a part of the divorce process when a home is involved.
