Young women come to Manhattan looking for a Carrie Bradshaw “Sex and the City” experience and to find a husband.  Unfortunately, being single in New York City is “the kiss of death.”  According to a recent study, 78 percent of 20 year-olds are females.

There are so few eligible guys around—it’s like a candy store for men.  To make the odds even worse, New York City is a gay man’s mecca.  There aren’t many straight men around looking for young, eligible women.

Getting married is particularly bleak in New York City where woman who have never been married make up 42 percent of the population. The eligible guys get snatched up right away. Also living in a neighborhood without many eligible bachelors can reduce one’s chances of meeting someone—at the local laundry, supermarket or gym.  It makes a hard situation of meeting someone even harder.

New York State has the country’s highest percentage of women who have never tied the knot, according to Census data.
