Today many people write their own wedding vows.  Love and  cherish or honor should be part of your wedding vows—but not  OBEY (in the past “love, cherish or honor and obey” were part of the vows).  Only women were  the ones whose vows included “obey.”

No woman should have to “obey” her husband.  Kate Middleton as well as Princess Diana had the word “obey” omitted from their vows.
