There are a lot of new dating apps that are more modern in their concepts than the old ones:

Tinder is for anyone who wishes they could just talk to people they find attractive in a bar, but without having to go to a bar.  Tinder started as a hook-up app but has become into a real dating app. Tinder shows you pictures of other users in the same age range and location as you. If you like someone’s Tinder profile picture, you swipe right. If you don’t you swipe left and a picture of another person appears. If both people like one another (swipe right), then they go into a private chat room where they can get to know each other better.

Wyldfire is for any woman who has been turned off by online dating, thanks to one too many explicit messages or obscene pictures sent from a total stranger. Similar to Tinder, the app alerts you to people in your area and your age range, and you swipe left or right depending on whether you like the look of someone. The difference is that men must be invited by a female friend to joinwhich hopefully means less creepsbut you never know!

Dattch is for lesbians or bisexual women. The location-based dating app for gay men, Grindr, has been around since 2009. This is an equivalent for lesbians and bisexual women. The profiles are verified by logging in via Facebook. In addition to matching women, Dattch also has a Pinterest-like feature that allows you to fill your profile with pictures.

Hinge is for users who like to begin dates by saying, “so how do you know so-and-so?” With the motto “because there are so many house parties, dinners and weddings,” Hinge sets you up with people who are already in your extended social circle. The app only presents users with potential partners with whom they have Facebook friends in common, and gives users a finite number of swipes per day. This is intended to make you be more careful when considering potential matches. All profiles are verified on Facebook.

Lulu is for women seeking a Yelp-like dating site. Guys sign up for Lulu to be rated by female users. Lulu uses photos from their Facebook profile. Women who have gone out with them take a quiz rating guys on a scale from one to ten and hashtag them with tags. The app allows women to upload their male friends, as well as warn other women away from guys who are less than desirable. The idea is that the good guys will get contacted constantly, while the bad guys will lose out.
