How To Save On Legal Fees With
A Divorce Attorney

If circumstances dictate that you have to use a divorce attorney to handle your divorce proceedings, then there is little you can do about it. But what you can do is to learn how to save precious dollars in your dealings with a divorce attorney.

The first thing to do is to get a written estimate of what your legal fees will be. Divorce attorneys are usually paid by the hour, which can be a very expensive proposition for you. You need to be sure and confident of the attorney’s capabilities to wrap up the case in your favor with as little fuss as possible. You should try to find out if an hourly rate or a flat fee works best for your situation. Get the fee agreement is writing with all aspects clearly spelled out.

This should include any refunds where possible, the scope of representation, any additional charges, frequency of billing, and cost breakdown to be present in the bill.

If you are getting billed by the hour, then you have to make the most of the situation. Be ready with your doubts and questions every time you call your lawyer. Do not get into the habit of phoning your lawyer every now and then; if you do so you will have chalked up a substantial bill before you even realize it.

You do not really need a lawyer’s service to decide how you and your spouse wish to divide personal items between yourselves. You will save a considerable amount of money if you can amicably agree on dividing your assets with your spouse.

Another thing to keep in mind is that even if you hire a lawyer, you can still save on costs if the lawyer is skillful and confident enough to end the case in your favor without letting it drag on.

Do not make the mistake of hiring an inexperienced lawyer or a lawyer who does not specialize in divorce. Such a lawyer may charge less but he won’t be able to bring your case to a quick and successful closure.
