The author of this poem is unknown…

Our NAME it that tenacious thing to which all faults and graces cling,

Attached to it for all I see is everything we dared to be.

Our manners, habits, thoughts and air, are stamped upon the NAME we bear.

‘Tis not by common flesh and bone, but by OUR NAME that we are known.

And all the failures and the gains, THE NAME TENACIOUSLY RETAINS!

Our name is given to us at birth. However, name changes always indicate a new experience—such as going to another country, marriage or divorce.  Some people such as writers and entertainers often use a pseudonym or change their name.
