Financially there is a gender gap in divorce. According to the U. S. Census Bureau, the average woman’s family income drops by 37% after divorce, while a man’s financial picture appears to improve by 10% after divorce. One of the reasons may be due to the difficulty experienced in collecting child support when a woman is the custodial parent. Another reason is the fact that there is still a gender gap between the pay scales of men and women.
It is difficult for women to achieve the same quality of life they experienced when they were married after divorce.
